While there are plenty of parenting books and blogs out there, nothing can truly prepare you for how you feel when you have a child. However, before you can get to that magical moment – you have just nine months on your side to get everything you need ready to welcome your new arrival. While this may seem far away – their due date will roll around much quicker than you may think.

With that in mind, here are some top tips for preparing for a baby! 

Attend all of your health appointments. As your baby grows, your body will go through a lot of changes – far more than just a bit of weight gain. You’ll also notice that your hormones change day to day, learn to deal with cravings, and spend hours waiting for them to kick. However, as your body goes through these changes, you must keep up to date with all medical appointments as advised by your doctor. For example, you may attend multiple scans or checkups throughout your pregnancy that help you better monitor not only your baby’s health but your own too. During this time, you should also look into ways you can save money on your health.  

Do the baby shopping early. By now, you’re probably all too aware of the fact that babies are expensive  – and you’ll already have spent hundreds of pounds on them by the time that they arrive. After all, you need to ensure that you have everything you need to care for them on hand ahead of time – from nappies to nightwear. As a result, the sooner you get started on baby shopping, the better. However, if the thought of spending hours on your feet in ships right now makes you feel nauseous – don’t worry. Take care of yourself. Society teaches us that we should always put others before ourselves – and this instinct is only heightened when caring for children. However, it is also important that you can take good care of yourself during your pregnancy. While this means you should focus on gentle exercise and healthy eating – you must also take care of your mental health. For example, you must learn to relax so that any pregnancy-related stress cannot impact your health. You should also ensure that you get plenty of sleep (you’ll need it once the baby arrives). 



Speak to other parents. When you are expecting a child, you’ll likely have a hundred questions running through your mind every single day. How much sleep should they get each night? How long before they start to talk? How do you know what to give them when they cry? While you may be keen to study up and get your hands on as many pregnancy books as possible, you’ll get the answers you are looking for much easier if you actually speak to other parents and get your questions answered. For example, you could browse popular parenting forums or simply speak to your friends who have had kids of their own.
