Affordable Christmas: gifts for £30 and under

With December (and more crucially for shopping – Black Friday) right around the corner, I thought this week would be a good chance to get my gift guide out for anyone like me who will be taking advantage of savings this weekend.

If you follow me on Instagram you might have seen my post a couple of weeks ago with a snapshot from a magazine’s gift guide featuring a £96 bottle of Jo Malone Perfume, £280 shoes and a £320 jumper! I have always been baffled by these gift guides – I mean who seriously has £320 to spend on a friend? And what if you have several friends to buy for?! Besides, if I did have £320 to spend on a present I’d want a spa weekend, a new TV or laptop, not a measly jumper! Hopefully this gift guide is a bit more realistic with my afforable Christmas gift guide. Most items are between £10 and £30 each (apart from two amazing bargain exceptions!)

I began by splitting this up into gifts for him / her and the kids, but I realised some of the ideas crossed over too much so rather than over complicate things I have just listed my favourite affordable Christmas gift ideas, bargain deals and in other cases just signposted my favourite websites for affordable gifts if you are looking for something a bit different.

Boots

Boots is far from an original suggestion but it is a high street favourite for an affordable Christmas and they always have some amazing star gift half price offers in the run up. I always take advantage of their 3 for 2 offer and make sure I have stacked my Advantage Card with as many available offers from the Advantage card app.

Here’s a couple of my current favourite offers:

Ted Baker gift set now half price £22.50

This Soap & Glory set is now just £40.00 rrp £101.50 if bought separately!
(I know, techinically this is over £30 but it’s just such good value! You could split some of the contents to gift multiple people if necessary – although I would probably keep it for myself instead!)

Bullet Journalling

The Bullet Journal method will be on my Christmas list! If you’ve never heard of Bullet Journalling before, you can check out the website here. I use mine for all aspects of my life including keeping track of my side hustles, organising my blog, to do lists – you can literally use it for whatever you want! This book from founder Ryder Carroll would be a fabulous gift for anyone who uses a “bujo” as they are known.

You could also gift someone with one of these beautiful Leuchtturm notebooks, which are a favourite in the bujo world and what I personally use for mine. They come in a range of colours and are priced at £12.99.

Joules Outlet

Joules is a popular brand, but did you know they have an official outlet store on eBay? Currently there is an extra 20% off everything for Black Friday (16th-22nd November) so this is a great opportunity to buy a premium brand at a heavily discounted price. Accessories are probably my favourite port of call as you don’t have to worry about sizes as much, but they have a range of products for Men, Women, Children and Home.so it really is worth a look.

My picks – This ladies scarf for just £7.96 (rrp £19.99)

Ladies wool gloves £7.96 rrp £19.95

Katie Loxton

I discovered this brand last Christmas so if it is new to you it is worth checking out as the products are high quality but very affordable. My favourite are the clutch bags or “pouches”, you can check out the range here.

They also do a range of accessories and homeware such as scent diffusers, candles, keyrings and scarves, all at very reasonable prices! Currently I can’t see any discounts on the website so I am going to wait it out until Black Friday just in case, but the brand is available on other websites which may have their own discounts.

Sass & Belle

This is another quirky little brand that has a range of products for men, women, kids and home, all at reasonable prices. I am hanging fire until Black Friday in case there are any offers to be had, but this is another brand you can find stocked on other retailers who may have their own discounts. This is another of my favourite brands for an affordable Christmas!

My picks

Coasters – Coasters are a great gift idea and there is a wide range on Sass&Belle. I like these dark flower coasters, £12.94

These adorable children’s rainbow bookends £11.69. Again there are a wide selection of different designs on the site.

This cute cat trinket dish, £6.99 (on Amazon)

Powerbanks

There’s nothing worse than getting stranded without any power to your phone, and a powerbank makes an inexpensive gift, regardless of gender or age. I love my compact mirror powerbank as it serves 2 purposes in one and is very easy to carry around in a makeup bag or handbag.

If you don’t fancy a mirror, this compact and slim powerbank would be easy to carry in a pocket or wallet and is just £14.98.

And as a little extra to go along with it, how about one of these key chain charging cables? A friend bought me a similar one rom Primark a few years ago and I get so many comments about it! It is a really handy item to have in your bag to use along with a powerbank especially if you don’t want to take a charging cable around with you.

Mergecube

This really has to be seen to be believed! I am very lucky as we have a set of these at work to use within schools and bring Augmented Reality (AR) experiences to the classroom. I am used to seeing the latest bits of kit and robotics through my job and usually the items we take into schools can be hundreds -or thousands – of pounds. I was amazed then to see the price tag of this was just £12.00 a couple of months ago. I am annoyed with myself as now the cheapest I can find it without international shipping is £24.99 – still reasonable but almost double! I cannot currently find any other UK stockists than Amazon. I am getting one as a (now more expensive) stocking filler for a family member  because I think it will be an amazing novelty on Christmas day for all the family to share. You can find out more about Merge cubes on the official site here.

Home Bargains!

Yep, good old Home Bargains is a great place to pick up gifts, particularly for children. There are a wide range of branded toys including Marvel, WWE, Disney, Leapfrog, Peppa Pig and VTech. The only problem being that stock is erratic and you never know what individual shops will have in and how long an item will be available, but if you live nearby and you have children to buy for it is definitely worth a visit!

My favourite picks from the website currently:

Minnie Mouse Magic Restaurant £14.99 RRP £34.99 – We have bought this for my daughter this Christmas!

Disney Infinity 3.0 The Force Awakens Play Set £2.99 RRP £19.99

My Little Pony Friendship Duet – £7.99 rrp 29.99

Hot Wheels AI Racing Set – £39.99 rrp £120.00 (Over the £30 guide for this post but such an incredible saving I thought I would include it!)

Remember, whenever you shop online, check TopCashback and Quidco to see if you can get cashback on your purchases. Right now I have an exclusive offer for new TopCashback members to get £10 cashback at eBay. Sign up using my link here.
