What are Nectar points?
Nectar points and the Nectar card is the loyalty scheme offered by Sainsbury’s. Just like other supermarket loyalty schemes such as Tesco Clubcard, Morrison’s More and the newly launched Asda Rewards, Nectar points offer shoppers the chance to earn money off future purchases in the form of points.
There are also clever ways to boost the amount of points you can earn and their value. In this post we’ll look at the best ways to boost your Nectar Points.

The Best Ways to Boost Your Nectar Points
Check the Nectar app for special offers
With the Nectar card app, you will regularly find special offers on how to boost your Nectar points. These offers from December 2022 include:
X7 points when you spend £10+ on one item on eBay – this offer also appears on eBay where it can be activated.
+7000 points when you buy Pet Insurance from Sainsbury’s bank
This is a great offer if it was something you were looking to purchase anyway, but always check the price against others on price comparison sites to ensure it is the best deal – otherwise it could work out more expensive than the value of the bonus points.
4x points at Very.co.uk when you shop via Nectar
Again, if you were already looking to purchase something from Very, this could work out a great offer, especially if it was a large or expensive item such as a mobile phone or white goods.
You will notice from these screenshots that all these offers are time limited to a short number of days, so it is always worth checking the Nectar app regularly to see the offers available.
Download the Nectar Notifier Chrome Extension
The Nectar Notifier is a free Chrome extension download that provides reminders to collect Nectar points when you are shopping online or making online searches. You can also earn 100 points by connecting your card when you first download the extension.
This is a great idea if like me, you always forget to check which loyalty schemes or cashback might work when making a purchase, as it pops up automatically when you are on an eligible page. For example, I got this alert when shopping at Crew Clothing:
It also prompted me that I could earn up to 200 points per month by using the built in search function powered by Yahoo. I have yet to see if this will make much of an impact on my Nectar earnings but will update this post accordingly.
Use Nectar Connect
Nectar Connect is another way to boost your Nectar points earnings, much in the same way as a cashback app. By connecting your bank account to Nectar Connect, you can view special offers where you can earn bonus points when spending at partner retailers such as these:
Take Advantage of the Nectar Double up Events
Whether the Nectar Double Up events will return in 2023 remains to be seen, as the last one was 2021. This event is a week where you can exchange your Nectar points for double their value, so it is well worth saving them for.
It would be a shame if this offer is gone forever, we will update this post with any information about the next Nectar Double up event as it becomes available.
Earn Nectar Points for free with Daily Mail Rewards
You can earn bonus Nectar Points for free through the Daily Mail Rewards scheme. If you already purchase the Daily Mail then it is a no brainer to take advantage of this offer. This post has full details of how Daily Mail Rewards works, and how you can get the bonus without buying the paper,
Take Advantage of Nectar Prices
Nectar Prices launched in April 2023, with big savings to be had on everyday products both in-store and online.
In addition to this, (and rather confusingly) Your Nectar Prices – formerly My Nectar Prices – offers personalised offers based on your spending habits. The main difference is the personalised Your Nectar offers are only available in-store and you also have to use a Sainsbury’s Smartshop scanner.
You can find full details about the different Nectar Prices in this post.
