What I Sold on eBay in Q4 2022 to make over £700
Some of my most popular posts on this blog are the ones showing what I sold on eBay in Q4, especially as over the past 2 years I made over £1000 each time. So I’m back again outlining what I sold on eBay in Q4 2022.
My total was slightly lower this year at £725.74, but in the previous two years my husband had chosen to sell his Playstation 4 and Xbox One which both fetched a couple of hundred each each and bumped my total up.
Although obviously noone is going to have exactly the same items to sell, hopefully you can find them useful in terms of “I didn’t know that was worth money!” when deciding whether to list or donate your unwanted items.
What is Q4?
Q4 is just short for “quarter 4” as in the last quarter of the year, from 1st Oct 31st December. It is widely regarded in retail and many businesses (depending upon their products of course) as the most profitable time of the year, and eBay is no exception.
Why is Q4 so profitable?
Due to Christmas and Black Friday / Cyber Monday sales, consumers are generally in a buying mindset at this time of the year. It doesn’t matter that eBay doesn’t tend to offer any Black Friday offers on private sellers, people still flock to eBay looking to buy.
Where do I source my items to sell on eBay?
Through a combination of decluttering our own unwanted items and sourcing in charity shops. Currently, the split of my listed items is around 70 / 30 with the larger share being my own unwanted items.
With a growing child and a gaming mad family, as soon as one round of decluttering is done, it seems another load of items are ready for us to part with!
However, in September 2022 I made a conscious effort to start sourcing again in charity shops. Throughout this post I will highlight which items are sourced and which were my own.
Do I need to sell things that would be Christmas gifts?
Not especially, but it certainly won’t hurt if you have items that could be used as gifts. People could be buying something as a gift that you never even considered, such as trying to find a sibling an original of their favourite childhood toy or game from the 80s or 90s.
When you view the items I sold below you will see that there is a wide variety of items and some may not have anything to do with being gifts.
Items that sell well on eBay in Q4
- Computer & console games – even for old systems
- Consoles – again, including older systems. In fact some of these can be more valuable
- Children’s toys
- Family Board Games
- Jigsaws
- Christmas themed items, such as Disney Christmas ornaments
- Books

What I sold on eBay in Q4 2022
1990s original Trigger Happy dress – £35.97
The first thing you will notice is this is not Christmas related in the slightest, but this is a current trend I have noticed that sells well on eBay at the moment. Any fashion items that are originals from the 90s or 00s seem to be hot right now!
This was a dress I owned back in the 90s when I was in university. I’m now 44 and my days of wearing mini tube dresses are well behind me!
Although most of my clothes from that period are obviously long gone, I kept a few things in a suitcase in the loft for sentimental reasons and decided the time was right to get rid.
The buyer messaged me to say she absolutely loved the dress and was planning on wearing it for a New Years Eve party. I’m glad to give it a new lease of life as it had many adventures with me in the 90s!
Playboy tshirt £20
This is another of my old tops from the early 00s. You can tell how popular the trend for these clothes currently is because it gathered a huge number of watchers in a short amount of time. If you have any clothes from this time period, ensure you include “Y2K” as a keyword in the title.
Diesel jacket – accepted offer of £90
Another 90s purchase…I honestly don’t know what I was thinking when I bought this jacket originally. I seem to remember it was £160 in 1997 and it was not the sort of money I usually spent on clothes aged 19!
It’s not even a classic style that goes with everything (or actually anything!) I was pleased I could still just about zip it up, but other than that it was a pretty useless item for me to keep.
Again this was in the loft because of the amount it cost I couldn’t just donate it. Also, I couldn’t find any trace of a similar product, even on other sites such as Etsy or Depop. I decided to list it for £150 and eventually accepted an offer of £90 which I was more than happy with.
Old games and games consoles
Here’s a selection of the old games I sold in Q4. Having owned a Switch for several years we decided to bid a fond farewell to our Nintendo Wii U, which meant all Wii and Wii U accessories, games and peripherals were also useless without the console and ready to be sold.
I did some research to determine which products were best to sell separately and which to be bundled with the console to make it more attractive to buyers.
Obviously I wanted to include a couple of controllers and some games so I went for the games of the lowest value to bundle with the console. We had 4 Wii Motes and 2 classic controllers. I noticed these sold well individually so I bundled 2 Wiimotes with the console and sold the others separately.
Nintendo Wii U Bundle £119
Super Mario Bros £13 minus postage
Wii motionsense remote £19.97 minus postage
Wiimote (without motionsense) & nunchuck £14.97 minus postage
Wii Classic Controller – £11.95 minus postage
Wii Party – £19.97
It’s worth noting that some Nintendo Wii games are not worth anything, and you often see them languishing at the charity shop for 99p a time.
The reason? Every man and his dog owned a Wii. However, some games still hold their value, such as this Wii Party. The best way of checking is simply to search sold listings and check.
On the other hand, the Wii U was a bit of a flop and as such, rarer and has more of a cult following. Its games generally hold their value more and can be distinguished from Wii games by their blue cases vs white.
Wii U Party £14.90
Mario Party 8 (Wii) – £12.69 minus postage
Other console & PC games:
Wario Ware: Mega Party Gamecube £24.99
Baldur’s Gate 2 PC CDROM £10.50
Sim City 2000 PC CD ROM £9.97
Tomoddachi Life – £25.92
Mario Kart Super Circuit Gameboy Advance – £23.17
Forza Horizon XBox360 – £15.99
Eltax Speakers £45
This was another bulky item that I had been meaning to list for ages and finally got around to. We had these speakers hooked up to a hifi system for years but they were now redundant so I was glad to rehome them. Again, there is a bit of a resurgence for hifi systems and record players, so if you have any old tech like this, now could be a good time to list it.
Toys, Books & Miscellaneous
Mrs Hinch Activity book – £6.97 minus postage
I loved her first book so bought this a couple of years ago but I didn’t realise it was basically wordsearches and colouring pages for adults and not what I wanted at all!. Not much profit after postage but was glad to get rid of it.
Stranger Things Recipe Book – £7.00
I was gifted this a couple of years ago, I thought it would cash in on the Season 4 craze around Halloween time. It actually sold a month after Halloween, but having that keyword in the title made sense.
Fifi Forget Me Not Plush Toy – £10.00
A charity shop find for 99p. Soft toys are a very underrated source of profit. Some old toys can be worth big money! After doing a little research I could see that this toy was from 2004.
The kids who would have been into this character are now in their 20s and love to buy up items for nostalgia purposes either for themselves or even their own children.
Toot Toot Dog Playhouse – £6.80
One of my daughter’s outgrown toys. This had been listed since last year and finally sold in the run up to Christmas.
Toot Toot Animals – £9.50 minus postage
Lego Duplo £5.50
Hand Painted Japanese Teaset – £19.00
I bought this in a charity shop for £3. I was glad to get a tidy profit from this but in hindsight I am going to steer clear of buying breakables for resale as they are more difficult to ship. Thankfully this sale went well and the buyer was happy.
Floral Coasters – £15.50
I bought these coasters in a charity shop for £3.50 so a nice profit. This item is small, lightweight and easy to ship so it was the perfect sourcing product. As the item was boxed with its original leaflet I thought it would attract a buyer easily.
